What you need to know

White faces stiff competition in bid for 3rd halfpipe gold

If Tuesday's qualifying round was any indication, the men's halfpipe final is going to be an epic showdown, with Shaun White set to headline a star-studded field vying for the gold medal on Wednesday.

Although the two-time Olympic gold medalist holds the edge after qualifying, White, who missed the podium at Sochi 2014 after winning gold at both Vancouver 2010 and Turin 2006, will face stiff competition from Australia's Scotty James and Japan's Ayumu Hirano in the final The trio of snowboarders each posted at least one score of 95 or higher on Tuesday. Shani Davis disappoints in men's 1,500m

Shani Davis won't be on the podium in the men's 1,500m speedskating event after a disappointing performance against Belgium's Bart Swings. After his race, Davis held the seventh-fastest time in the event with the favorites still yet to compete.

Erin Hamlin fails to land spot on podium

U.S. flag bearer Erin Hamlin put herself in contention to end her Olympic career on a high note. But the 31-year-old, who will retire after PyeongChang 2018, fell short of landing a spot on the podium after placing sixth in the women's singles luge final.

Chloe Kim captures 1st Olympic gold

Chloe Kim couldn't hold back tears after turning her Olympic dream into reality Tuesday by winning gold in the women's halfpipe final.

It wasn't even close, as the 17-year-old posted an impressive first-run score of 93.75 that was good enough to claim gold. Despite cementing the victory before her final run, the teenager went even bigger with a near-perfect score of 98.25 to put a bow on her first gold medal at PyeongChang 2018. Kim was joined on the podium by compatriot Arielle Gold, who won bronze. (Read more)
