Los Angeles Sparks guard Riquna Williams has been suspended for 10 games as a result of a domestic violence incident, the WNBA announced on Tuesday.

It's the longest suspension in league history

On Dec. 6, the 29-year-old allegedly tried to forcibly enter her ex-girlfriend's home, then struck her several times in the head, according to an officer's account that Sports Illustrated's Michael McCann obtained. Then, Williams allegedly returned to her vehicle and brandished a firearm, pointing the weapon in the direction of a third party and uttering a threat before driving away.

Williams was arrested and charged with two felony counts on April 29, one for assaulting her ex-girlfriend, and the other for threatening another person with a firearm, according to the league's release.

While Williams' criminal case is ongoing, the WNBA conducted its own investigation into the matter. The league came to its judgment through consultation with domestic violence experts.

Additionally, the league will require Williams to participate in counseling.

Williams has logged the fourth-most minutes per game on the Sparks so far this season. The 2015 All-Star is averaging 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in 25.4 minutes per game this year.

Her suspension comes on the eve of the new WNBA commissioner's start date. Former Deloitte CEO Cathy Engelbert is set to officially take the role on Wednesday.
