Manchester United have inquired about the possibility of signing American attacker Christian Pulisic on loan from Chelsea, according to ESPN's James Olley.

Erik ten Hag is trying to strengthen his squad after Premier League defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford to start his regime. United's pursuits for Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot appear to have fallen flat. Still, there's hope that Pulisic's apparent frustration over a lack of game time at Chelsea - exacerbated by his upcoming World Cup commitments with the United States - could help facilitate a move.

The Pennsylvania native, who started just 13 league matches last season, could attract interest from plenty of other clubs if Chelsea allow him to leave. Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring the situation and, like Manchester United, would prefer to sign Pulisic on loan.

Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with an approach for Pulisic.

The 23-year-old's potential switch could hinge on Chelsea's ability to find a replacement. The summer exits of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner depleted Thomas Tuchel's numbers in attack, and Barcelona beat Chelsea to signing Raphinha from Leeds United. Callum Hudson-Odoi could also depart in this transfer window.

Chelsea reportedly submitted two unsuccessful bids for Everton's Anthony Gordon, who could ultimately cost over £50 million. Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also a rumored target for the Blues, and Tuchel has spoken of their "close bond" from working together at Borussia Dortmund.
