Cam Smith withdraws from BMW Championship due to hip discomfort
"Unfortunately, Cam will be unable to compete in the BMW Championship this week in Wilmington, (Deleware)," read a statement from Smith's agent. "He has been dealing with some on-and-off hip discomfort for several months and thought it would be best to rest this week in pursuit of the FedEx Cup."
Smith, 28, is currently ranked second in the world and third on the FedEx Cup points list. Reports surfaced last week that the reigning Open champion is joining LIV Golf on a $100-million deal. Smith declined to comment on the matter.
The BMW Championship is the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Smith participated in this past week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing in a tie for 13th place.
