Thomas locks up No. 1 seed for revamped Tour Championship

Justin Thomas will ride his BMW Championship victory into the Tour Championship as the No. 1 seed in the FedEx Cup points list - a spot worth more than it has been in previous seasons.

For the first time, the FedEx Cup leader at East Lake in Atlanta will start the tournament at 10-under par, with staggered scoring implemented as the points list descends. When the leaderboard emerges Thursday prior to any golf being played, Thomas will have a two-shot lead over Patrick Cantlay.

This ensures that the winner at East Lake is also the FedEx Cup champion and is expected to simplify scoring for both fans and players.

The Tour Championship begins Aug. 22 with the $15-million first-place prize on the line.
