4 players set to light up Pebble Beach on moving day
The stage is set for an exciting day at Pebble Beach for Round 3 of the U.S. Open.
Gary Woodland has grabbed the 36-hole lead at 9-under par, but there are plenty of big names who are well within striking distance.
Focusing on players who are shooting incredibly well from tee to green but haven't made enough putts through two days, here are four players set to make some noise on moving day.
Brooks Koepka - 5 back
Koepka can probably taste a third straight U.S. Open win at this point. While he still has plenty of golfers to track down over the next two days, his stats indicate he's closer than it appears. The four-time major winner ranks second in strokes gained: tee to green backed by a flawless approach game. If he can sink a few birdie putts early in Round 3, don't be shocked if he's in the final pairing Sunday.
Odds to win: 7-1
Jon Rahm - 6 back
No one is playing better from tee to green through two rounds than Rahm. However, he's lost nearly two shots to the field with poor putting to keep him outside of the top 10. Rahm sits 55th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: putting this season, so his first two rounds are likely an anomaly. Expect that flatstick to wake up and birdies to come early and often for the Spaniard on moving day.
Odds to win: 33-1
Henrik Stenson - 6 back
Stenson ranks second in driving accuracy through two rounds at Pebble Beach, an expected result for the Swede largely due to his lethal 3-wood. He also sits T-5 for greens-in-regulation hit. However, Stenson can't get a putt to drop as he ranks 77th in strokes gained: putting through 36 holes. The birdie looks will continue to come and it's only a matter of time before a few start dropping.
Odds to win: 50-1
Dustin Johnson - 7 back
Even though he's seven shots behind the leader, Johnson is listed as the sixth favorite to win at Pebble. He couldn't buy a birdie on the back nine on Friday. DJ missed six birdie putts from within 14 feet to keep him at 2-under after Round 2. He's more likely than anyone to go out and shoot a 65 on Saturday to grab the clubhouse lead and a late final-round tee time.
Odds to win: 20-1
