Woodland holds 1-shot lead over Rose after Round 3 at U.S. Open

Gary Woodland posted a 2-under 69 in Round 3 to carry a one-shot lead over Justin Rose into Sunday at the U.S. Open.

Woodland saw his lead grow to as many as four shots during the front nine on Saturday before fending off the streaking Rose with two crucial par saves on the difficult back nine at Pebble Beach. The 35-year-old heads into the last 18 holes at 11-under for the week in search for his first career major title.

Rose, who was in the final pairing with Woodland, played the last five holes at 2-under par to narrow the gap. He was two behind Phil Mickelson heading into the final round when he won the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion.

Brooks Koepka finds himself right in the thick of things after posting a bogey-free 68. He'll need to overcome a four-shot deficit if he hopes to become the first player to win three straight U.S. Open titles since Willie Anderson in 1903-05.

Louis Oosthuizen and Chez Reavie join Koepka at 7-under for the tournament.
