Tiger Woods carded an even-par 72 in Round 3 at The Players Championship, hindered by a disappointing performance on the greens at TPC Sawgrass.

Woods needed nothing short of a miracle to get back into contention for Sunday's final round but two bogeys in his first three holes derailed the comeback effort. He missed seven putts from inside 15 feet on the front nine to make the turn at 3-over.

He added three birdies to his scorecard on the back nine to avoid the pending secondary cut at The Players, which is implemented because more than 78 players made the 1-under cutline after Round 2.

Tiger overcame his 17th-hole demons on Saturday. He stuck his tee shot to three feet and made the routine birdie. He walked off the island green laughing with playing partner Kevin Na after the two shared a hilarious putting moment.

Woods lost over 2.5 strokes putting in Round 3 but continued to hit it beautifully off the tee. He finished the day outside the top 40 on the leaderboard.
