DeChambeau calls new dropping-from-knee-height rule 'a bit absurd'
Bryson DeChambeau - who's choosing to putt with the flagstick in this week at the Tournament of Champions - isn't focusing on the new rule he is taking advantage of, rather a more obscure rule the 25-year-old doesn't think makes sense.
"That you have to drop it from knee height is a bit absurd, unfortunately," he said, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "I think that you should be able to go from knee height to shoulder height. There should be no issue with that, whatever you want to do, honestly."
Here's what Bryson is referring to, with Andrew Landry demonstrating the new technique:
The new rule states that a player must let go of the ball from knee height and cannot drop it from any higher or lower.
Meanwhile, DeChambeau continued to excel with the pin in during Round 2, leading to a 5-under 68 to sit in a tie for second. He also leads the field in strokes gained: putting.
“I'm using it to my advantage, best I can,” he said of the new flagstick rule.
