Brooks Koepka carded a blistering 7-under 65 in Round 2 of the CJ Cup and sits alone in second, one shot back of leader Scott Piercy heading into the weekend in South Korea.

"My game is pretty simple. I guess you can call it like caveman golf," Koepka said, according to The Associated Press. "You see the ball, hit the ball and go find it again. You're not going to see any emotion just because I'm so focused, but I'm enjoying it."

A win or solo second finish this week at The Club at Nine Bridges would move Koepka to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time in his career.

"I feel like my game is in a good spot. I feel the way I played today, if I can carry that momentum into Saturday and Sunday, it will be fun," the 28-year-old added after his 2nd round at the CJ Cup.

Koepka is one of four players to have won three or more majors and never be world No. 1, according to Justin Ray of Golf Channel. Phil Mickelson, Payne Stewart, and Padraig Harrington are the other three.

The two-time U.S. Open champion took advantage of easier scoring conditions on Friday after wind wreaked havoc on Jeju Island in the opening round, which saw the scoring average over par.

Koepka will tee off in Round 3 alongside Piercy and Chez Reavie at 8:30 p.m ET Friday.
