It was a tale of two nines for PGA Tour Latinoamerica player Jorge Fernandez-Valdes at the Lexas Peru Open.

Fernandez-Valdes got off to a wicked-hot start in his opening round, when he dropped eight birdies in his first nine holes to shoot a front-nine 28.

The 25-year-old cooled off on the back side with five straight pars, and then made a mess of his score coming into the clubhouse. Valdes went bogey, par, bogey, quadruple-bogey for a back-nine 42 and a round of 70.

The Argentine bounced back with a second-round 68, and sits in a tie for ninth place at 6-under for the week.
