Karsten Warholm of Norway won the gold medal in men's 400m hurdles Monday night with a world-record time of 45.94 seconds.

The old record of 46.70 seconds, set by Warholm on July 1, fell by a staggering 0.76 seconds, leaving the Norwegian in disbelief upon crossing the finish line.

Only in the last few years did runners break the 47-second barrier in the event, and no other world-record run has improved the mark by an increment greater than 0.06 seconds this century.
