The Carolina Hurricanes traded defenseman Haydn Fleury to the Anaheim Ducks for blue-liner Jani Hakanpaa and a sixth-round pick, the team announced Monday.

Fleury has recorded just one goal and zero assists in 35 games this season. Carolina selected the 6-foot-4 rearguard seventh overall at the 2014 NHL Draft, but he's largely failed to live up to those expectations during his 167-game career.

The 24-year-old is signed through 2021-22 with a $1.3-million AAV, per CapFriendly. He'll be a restricted free agent with arbitration eligibility at the end of the deal.

Hakanpaa has recorded a goal and an assist in 47 career NHL games - 42 of which have come this season. The 29-year-old carries a cap hit of $750,000 and will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end.
