Giants' Daboll glad Golladay is upset with benching

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday he's pleased that wide receiver Kenny Golladay is frustrated about his lack of playing time.

"I've been in the NFL a long time," Daboll said, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. "I don't know that I've ever been part of any team where someone's not happy about something. I have great respect for Kenny. I'm glad he's not happy he didn't play, that shows competitiveness."

After playing only two offensive snaps Sunday, Golladay vented his frustration with his role on the team Wednesday, saying, "I came here to play." The 28-year-old was on the field for most of New York's snaps in the season opener but caught only two passes.

Daboll is in his first season with the Giants. Golladay is in Year 2 with New York after signing a four-year, $72-million deal in the 2021 offseason when the NFC East club still employed head coach Joe Judge and general manager Dave Gettleman.

Daboll said he's spoken to Golladay about the wideout's situation, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

The one-time Pro Bowl receiver also said Wednesday he's confused about his lack of snaps because he's received praise from Daboll.

"I talk to all the guys all the time. I mean, I think it's a bigger thing than really it is," Daboll said, according to Ed Valentine of the Big Blue View. "We went with (David) Sills, KGs working hard, we'll see where it goes this week. And I have confidence in old guys. And we're getting ready for Dallas."

Richie James leads New York with 10 catches and 110 yards this season.

The 2-0 Giants host the 1-1 Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Week 3.
