The Cleveland Browns are planning to move forward with Baker Mayfield as their quarterback for the 2022 campaign, sources told Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com.

Mayfield and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski are on the same page, according to Rapoport and Pelissero. Earlier this week, Mayfield shot down a report that the quarterback was so frustrated with Stefanski this season he wanted the coach to surrender play-calling duties.

The 26-year-old Mayfield will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder in the offseason and will not play in the final game of the regular season.

The fourth-year signal-caller battled multiple injuries in 2021 and struggled to perform while on the field. The No. 1 pick from the 2018 draft has thrown seven interceptions in his last three games for the 7-9 Browns.

Mayfield has one more year left on his rookie contract.
