Bears' Fields replaces injured Dalton in win
Dalton was taken to the locker room with two minutes left in the first half. Fields played the rest of the contest while leading Chicago to a 20-17 win.
Head coach Matt Nagy told reporters postgame he believes the veteran dodged an ACL injury, and Dalton will undergo an MRI on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Dalton went 10-for-11 passing for 67 yards and a touchdown prior to leaving with the injury. He also ran the ball twice for 25 yards against his former team of nine years.
Meanwhile, Fields went 6-for-13 for 60 yards and an interception and ran seven times for 35 yards.
Nagy added he would be confident with Fields starting if Dalton's injury forces him to miss time.
“(Fields is) farther along than we thought he’d be at this point," Nagy said, according to Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times. "We feel good with him.”
The Bears' lone second-half touchdown came on a 53-yard interception return.
Fields received a handful of snaps during the team's season opener against the Los Angeles Rams, completing two passes for 10 yards and rushing for a 3-yard touchdown.
