The Indianapolis Colts and right tackle Braden Smith have agreed to a contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Smith's deal is worth $72.4 million over four years and contains $42 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

His reported $18.1-million average salary ranks second among right tackles behind only the New Orleans Saints' Ryan Ramczyk ($19.2 million), according to Over The Cap.

Selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Smith was originally expected to play at guard but quickly cemented his place as the starter at right tackle.

The 25-year-old has started 43 games and made two further appearances during three seasons in Indianapolis.

He was one of three tackles to play at least 900 snaps in 2020 without allowing a sack, according to PFF.
