Free-agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks was sentenced Thursday to one day in jail, three years of probation, and 300 hours of community service due to his 2018 guilty plea to insider trading charges.

Kendricks will serve his one-day sentence Thursday, the linebacker's agent, Doug Hendrickson, told ESPN's Brady Henderson.

"Clearly, Mychal is very happy with the outcome, and he's ready to continue playing football for someone," Hendrickson said.

The former Seattle Seahawks veteran must also pay a $100,000 fine, according to Anna Orso of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kendricks was reportedly facing 30 to 37 months in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Gene E.K. Pratter took into account the numerous postponements for Kendricks' sentencing date when handing down the verdict, saying the length of time he has waited "must be a very significant punishment itself," per Orso.

"I've been a role model, and it's tough when a little kid comes up to you and asks if you're going to jail," Kendricks said in court. "For the past years, I haven't been able to answer that."

Kendricks played the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles cut him in May 2018, and he signed with the Cleveland Browns a month later. However, Cleveland released Kendricks after his charges were announced in August.

The 30-year-old joined the Seahawks in September 2018 and served an eight-game suspension that season. He made 17 starts over two campaigns in Seattle but suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 in 2019.

Kendricks spent time on the Seahawks' practice squad in 2020 before finishing the year on the Washington Football Team's active roster.
