San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert is expected to be placed on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Monday, according to John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game.

Mostert suffered the injury early in the second half of Sunday's contest against the Los Angeles Rams. He racked up 17 carries for 65 yards along with 11 yards on two receptions before exiting.

The 28-year-old missed two games earlier this season with a knee injury. However, Mostert still leads the 49ers with 303 rushing yards in 2020.

San Francisco also won't have starting center Ben Garland for the foreseeable future. Garland, who's started five games this season, is also expected to be placed on IR after suffering a calf injury against the Rams, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports.

Players placed on IR this season have to be sidelined for at least three weeks.

Mostert and Garland are just the latest significant injuries to hit the 49ers, who haven't been healthy all season long.

San Francisco will try to improve to 4-3 against the New England Patriots in Week 7.
