Kansas City Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder announced Wednesday that offensive tackle Eric Fisher will undergo core muscle surgery this week, according to team reporter BJ Kissel.

The Chiefs failed to disclose how much time Fisher will miss, but said Cameron Erving will start at left tackle Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.

The former No. 1 overall pick was listed as questionable for Kansas City's Week 2 win over the Oakland Raiders with a groin injury, but started the game nonetheless.

Core surgery usually takes four-to-six weeks to recover, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, though offensive linemen have played through injuries before.

A sturdy presence on the Chiefs' offensive line, Fisher missed just one game over the previous four seasons.
