Hue Jackson: 'Some of the best coaching I did' was with Browns
Despite accumulating a 3-36-1 record over two-and-a-half seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Hue Jackson believes he left it all out there as head coach.
"I think during those times, it was probably some of the best coaching I did, contrary to what people think, because you're always doing anything and everything you can to find a way to win," Jackson told WFNZ Charlotte's "Wilson & Parcell" on Wednesday. "Now, whether it happens or not, that's not up to me sometimes. Again, I think I learned a lot being in that situation."
Jackson was fired by the Browns midway through the 2018 season. He went on to secure an assistant position with the Cincinnati Bengals, but the club let him go in the offseason.
The 53-year-old started his career by going 8-8 with the Oakland Raiders in 2011 and holds an all-time head coaching record of 11-44-1. His .205 winning percentage is the second-worst in NFL history among coaches with at least 40 games.
Currently without a coaching gig, Jackson is seeking a chance to change the perception of his career.
"I mean, just because of the situation in Cleveland doesn't mean that you can't coach. There's a lot of great coaches who came before me that coached there and went on and did great things. Sometimes, the situation is different. I think if people dig in and really take the time to look at the overall situation there, maybe they would understand it more. At the same time, I understand what narrative gets put out there, that's what people know.
"Hopefully, people will think back to the times when I've put myself in that position. I had to be doing something right. To go back and be a coordinator again or be a head coach again, I do believe it's in my future. So I've just got to go work through the process and see where it goes."
