Steelers GM: Brown won't be traded at discount price
Antonio Brown will be wearing new colors in 2019, but the Pittsburgh Steelers have no intention of letting the disgruntled receiver leave for pennies on the dollar.
"By no means are we going to make a trade or any type of move that will not be beneficial to (the Steelers)," said general manager Kevin Colbert on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
"We're not going to move a significant player for less than significant compensation," Colbert added, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Brown met with Steelers owner Art Rooney II on Tuesday and the two parties agreed it was best to move on. Colbert expressed his appreciation for the work that the seven-time Pro Bowler did with the organization.
"We love you as a player, we thank you for what you did for us the last nine years," said Colbert. "We're disappointed we didn’t get you to a Super Bowl and still think you're a Hall of Fame candidate."
Colbert, however, left the door ajar for Brown to have a change of heart, saying: "I don't think any relationship is irreparable," according to Joe Rutter of Tribune-Review Sports.
Brown is due a $2.5-million roster bonus on March 17, so the Steelers have less than a month to find a suitable trade offer.
