Rodgers: 'I'd love to play to 40'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will turn 35 years old in December, has a timeline in mind for his eventual retirement.

"I'd love to play to 40," Rodgers told Peter King of NBC Sports. "I just think that number means a lot. Obviously, Tom (Brady) is kind of rewriting the book. Brett (Favre) had a good season when he turned 40."

As Rodgers mentioned, Brady is coming off the third MVP season of his career and will turn 41 years old in early August.

Previously, Favre made the Pro Bowl at age 40, guiding the Minnesota Vikings to a 12-4 record while throwing for 4,202 yards and 33 touchdowns to a career-low seven interceptions.

Meanwhile, one thing that has differentiated Rodgers from those two is his mobility, which allowed him to rush for more than 340 yards in each of the two seasons before his injury-shortened 2017, and for at least 200 yards and a touchdown in every season he's played at least 15 games.

He's determined not to lose that part of his game.

"My goal is be able to move like I do or close to how I do and still be able to do that at 40 ... just because nobody's been able to do that and still move around the same," Rodgers added. "Steve Young's career was cut short in his late thirties. John (Elway), the same - he didn't really move the same as when he was younger. So to be able to move the same way at 38, 39, 40 would be cool. That’s my aim."
