Bridgewater confident but not comfortable discussing knee

Teddy Bridgewater showed confidence in himself and his health when he signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets that reportedly included just $500,000 in guaranteed money, but he's not quite ready to get into details regarding his recovering knee.

Although the 25-year-old has not completed a pass since 2015, he believes he's "capable of performing at a high level" and welcomes competition for the starting quarterback job, but when asked about his knee on a Wednesday conference call, he was tight-lipped.

"That's not something I'm comfortable talking about right now," said Bridgewater, declining to say if his knee is near 100 percent ready, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. "I'm pretty sure that will be a discussion I have with the training staff and we'll come up with a plan moving forward."

Bridgewater's contract requires him to be active for all 16 games and play at least half of the snaps to earn $4 million in incentives after taking snaps in just one game over the past two seasons. The former Minnesota Vikings starter strongly believes he will be ready to get back on the field by the time Week 1 rolls around.

"I'm very confident in myself," said Bridgewater. "I'm confident in the athletic training staff and the coaching staff that they can get me back to the player that I once was.

"But at the same time, we're only in March and the only way to get better is to put the work in now. I'm excited about this opportunity I have ... I can't wait. I'm excited."
