Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly is recovering from right shoulder surgery, a league source told The Charlotte Observer's Joseph Person.

It's unclear exactly when Kuechly underwent the procedure, but it was the reason he didn't play in the Pro Bowl, added Person. He was replaced by Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones.

Kuechly has missed 10 games over the past three seasons, but played in 15 this campaign, sitting out Week 7 while in the concussion protocol.

The former Defensive Player of the Year racked up 125 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three interceptions in 2017.
