NFL responds to memo asking for support in social activism

The NFL has issued a response after a group of players asked the league for support in social activism.

The response notes that commissioner Roger Goodell spent time with Malcolm Jenkins a couple of weeks ago regarding the issues and also met with community leaders and representatives of law enforcement.

It also states the league looks forward to continuing to work with players on these important issues.

The memo sent to the league was entitled "Player Activism for Racial Inequality and Criminal Justice Reform" and was issued by Jenkins and Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, along with endorsements from Philadelphia Eagles receiver Torrey Smith and former player Anquan Boldin.

One of the requests made was for an activism awareness month in November.

Jenkins and Boldin have met with Congress about police and community relations, while Bennett has sat during the national anthem in his first two games.
