Thursday night wager: Take the Rams in dreadful NFC West matchup

The NFL appears to be testing just how much people love football this year with its Thursday schedule, as this week's matchup is about as bad as can be.

That's really saying something considering Week 2's slopfest between the Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals, but tonight's contest sees the San Francisco 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams.

Much like last week, it's probably best just to avoid touching this one, but if you must, the visitors are the side to roll with.

Los Angeles Rams (-2.5) at San Francisco 49ers

The shine on Jared Goff and the Rams from their opening week beatdown of the Indianapolis Colts certainly didn't last long. After the former No. 1 overall pick looked solid in Week 1, the Washington Redskins forced him to a 15-for-25 passing performance for just 224 yards and an interception. While Todd Gurley had his moments, it wasn't enough to see the Rams get a second home win to start the season.

Luckily for head coach Sean McVay and the Rams, the 49ers await in a perfect spot to help get them back on track.

If San Francisco had competent quarterback play Sunday in Seattle, it likely would have walked away with a shocking win. Unfortunately for new head coach Kyle Shanahan, Brian Hoyer couldn't get anything going against the Seahawks, finishing with just 99 yards passing and an interception. It's unlikely that the veteran pivot fixes things in such a short week, so expect a heavy dose of Carlos Hyde on Thursday.

If the Rams defense can limit the rushing attack, they should handle this road test with flying colors. Look for Aaron Donald to step up on the line, and Gurley to have a big day as Los Angeles improves to 2-1. Rams 20, 49ers 13

Thursday picks record: 2-0
