Jones defends Elliott's effort on interception vs. Broncos

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett might be disappointed with Ezekiel Elliott's lack of effort on an interception in Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos, but the man upstairs believes it's more of a team issue.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that while Elliott should've tried harder, so should a lot of unspecified Cowboys players.

"I think if you look at everybody's reaction to that interception ... certainly on that interception, if you really look at several Dallas Cowboys players on that interception, you saw what would not be the case in a closely contested ball game," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

"I think you can point to Zeke but you really have to look at the general effort to chase that ball down by most of the people that were on the field. Dak (Prescott) now, of course, gave it everything he had to try to contain that interception, but still, you look at it across the board and you’ll see that you need more effort than what you see."

After Chris Harris intercepted a tipped pass and attempted to return it, Elliott slowed to a walk before putting his hands on his hips and leaving the field.

Jones added that Cowboys players will review film of past turnover plays that involved a lack of effort in an attempt to rectify the issue, but he doesn't appear to think Elliott's display warrants specific criticism.
