O.J. Simpson couldn't avoid controversy during his parole hearing Thursday, delivering a statement that most people would certainly find patently false.

Simpson spoke at length when questioned during the hearing, but submitted a dubious self-assessment.

"I've always felt that I've been pretty good with people and I've basically spent a conflict-free life," Simpson said.

Simpson was acquitted of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1995, though he was found guilty of the crime in civil court. The former running back spent the past eight years in jail for felony armed robbery and kidnapping.
