Donald skips voluntary OTAs as Rams work on his long-term extension
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald did not participate in organized team activities (OTAs), NFL Network's Steve Wyche reports.
Rams head coach Sean McVay said he expected Donald's absence and assured it wasn't injury-related.
"Everything's good with Aaron," McVay said via ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. "We expected him not to be here today, but what we have seen from Aaron this offseason, in terms of the effort, the way that he's competed, we've been very pleased with him."
Donald's holdout is believed to be related to a contract dispute, according to Wyche. It should be noted that OTAs are voluntary.
Rams general manager Les Snead said he's working on a long-term deal for Donald.
"We're definitely at the serious stage of negotiating," Snead said via Myles Simmons of the team's official website.
Donald holds a $3.2-million salary-cap figure for the upcoming season, with $1.8 million in base salary. The three-time Pro Bowler is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after the conclusion of the 2018 season.
Donald is arguably the NFL's best defensive tackle, earning first-team All-Pro honors in consecutive seasons. The 25-year-old recorded 47 tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles while playing in all 16 games last season.
