Heartbreak for Canada.

The mixed doubles curling team of Rachel Homan and John Morris will not get a chance to play for the medals.

The Canadians lost their final round-robin match 8-7 to the undefeated Italians and missed out on advancing to the playoff with a 5-4 record.

The match came down to an extra end, with Italy stealing a point for the win on a shot that required a final measurement, determining the winner by just a millimeter.

The loss means there will be a new Olympic champion in mixed doubles, as Canada was attempting to defend the gold Morris and his then-partner Kaitlyn Lawes won in PyeongChang.

Italy finishes a perfect 9-0, becoming the first team to go undefeated in Olympic round-robin play of mixed doubles. The Italians will face Sweden in one semifinal, while Norway and Great Britain will meet in the other.
