The Washington Nationals are expected to sign Dominican shortstop Armando Cruz soon after the international signing period opens on Friday for about $4 million, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Cruz is the No. 5-ranked international prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

The 16-year-old infielder is considered to be among the best defensive players available on the international market. While he hasn't developed power, Cruz has demonstrated solid contact skills while also showcasing an ability to hit to all fields.
