Rays affiliate to don Hurricanes-style jerseys for 'Bunch of Jerks Night'

Don Cherry's criticism of the Carolina Hurricanes has inspired a new minor-league baseball theme night.

The Durham Bulls, the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, will wear jerseys inspired by the Hurricanes' alternate black uniforms as part of their "Bunch of Jerks Night" on Aug. 23. There will be other promotions blending baseball and hockey throughout the evening.

Cherry referred to the Hurricanes as a "bunch of jerks" while discussing the team's post-win celebrations on an episode of "Coach's Corner" in February. The Hurricanes and their fans later adopted the statement as a rallying cry, leading to more criticism from the pundit.
