'Varsity Blues' to be rebooted for new video platform

"Varsity Blues" is getting a revival.

Quibi - a new video platform founded by former Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg - is developing a modern take of the 1999 football classic, according to Denise Petski of Deadline.

The original film's producers, Mike Tollin and Tova Laiter, will be involved in the reboot.

"For all those who cheered Mox's refrain, 'I don't want your life,' as well as all those who never heard of the West Canaan Coyotes, we're thrilled to bring 'Varsity Blues' to Quibi and into the 21st century!" Tollin said.

James Van Der Beek, Jon Voight, Scott Caan, the late Paul Walker, and the late Ron Lester starred in the original film, which follows a group of high school football players and their overbearing coach in the fictional town of West Canaan, Texas. It grossed $52 million domestically on a budget of $16 million.
