City of Dallas proposes renaming street after Dirk

Dirk Nowitzki may soon have a street named after him near the Dallas Mavericks' arena.

The city of Dallas has proposed renaming a portion of a street running in front of American Airlines Center to Nowitzki Way in honor of the Mavs legend, according to Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com.

"If they rename the street after me, that would be a great honor," Nowitzki said. "Many great athletes have played in that arena, so I'm not sure I deserve all that."

The request will be formally submitted to the city plan commission on June 6. If approved, it could become official as early as Sept. 25.
