British cyclist Lauren Dolan showed incredible resilience at the 2017 UCI Road World Championships on Monday, finishing the junior women's individual time trial despite suffering a gruesome leg injury.

Dolan reportedly hit a pothole midway through the course in Bergen, Norway, sliding on her right side and lacerating her thigh and knee, according to Nigel Wynn of Cycling Weekly. She got up and completed the race - on a road bike, since her time-trial ride was damaged - finishing only two minutes and 24 seconds behind the eventual winner.

Tweeting from the hospital Tuesday, her 18th birthday, Dolan shared a photo of her bandaged leg and thanked everyone for their well-wishes.
