Michigan named Brandon Naurato interim head coach of its men's hockey program Sunday.

Naurato, who served as the Wolverines' assistant coach this past season, takes over for Mel Pearson, who the university dismissed Friday following an investigation into - and numerous complaints about - his behavior.

The new bench boss was in his first campaign as a Michigan assistant in 2021-22, helping the team win the Big Ten tournament and advance to the Frozen Four. The 37-year-old previously spent three seasons as a player development consultant with the Detroit Red Wings.

Naurato, who was born in Livonia, Michigan, played as a forward for the Wolverines from 2005-09.
