Former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara is transferring to Iowa, he announced Thursday.

McNamara entered the transfer portal earlier this week as a graduate transfer.

The 22-year-old led the Wolverines to a 12-2 record and a Big Ten championship as a starter during the 2021 season. He also helped the program clinch its first-ever College Football Playoff berth last year.

McNamara lost his starting role to J.J. McCarthy early this campaign. The touted sophomore signal-caller has steered Michigan to a 12-0 record with an opportunity to repeat as conference champions and earn its second straight CFP berth.

The Reno, Nevada, native leaves Michigan having tallied 3,181 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 21 games.

The Hawkeyes add a spark to an offensive group that struggled to score consistently throughout the 2022 campaign. Iowa's 17.4 points per game are tied for 12th in the Big Ten, and its 1,898 passing yards are the second-fewest in the conference.

Iowa concluded the regular season with a 7-5 record.
