Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec is expected to miss significant time with a right hand injury and is doubtful to return this season, a source told Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel.

The redshirt junior posted a photo to social media Monday from a hospital bed with his right hand heavily bandaged.

Jurkovec sustained the injury on the Eagles' opening offensive series against UMass after falling awkwardly on his hand. He passed for 325 yards, three touchdowns, completing 67% of his pass attempts to begin 2021.

The Pittsburgh native is in his second season at Boston College after transferring from Notre Dame prior to the 2020 campaign.

Jurkovec passed for 2,558 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions last season.

Boston College will likely turn to redshirt senior Dennis Grosel, who filled in for Jurkovec during the team's 45-28 win against the Minutemen. He completed 78% of his passes for 199 yards and a touchdown in relief.
