Georgia-Virginia, Auburn-North Carolina in jeopardy due to ACC regulations
The ACC's announcement Wednesday that each of its teams will only play one non-conference game this season has left multiple notable contests up in the air.
Georgia was slated to open its season against Virginia at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sept. 7, while Auburn was scheduled to face North Carolina on Sept. 12 in the same arena.
But the ACC announced that all non-conference games must be played in the home state of the ACC school.
The loss of either contest could have significant financial ramifications for the schools involved.
Virginia would earn $4 million for its neutral-site contest against Georgia if the game met ticket-purchase requirements, while the Bulldogs would take home $4.25 million, according to Paul Myerberg of USA Today.
North Carolina and Auburn were reportedly set for $3-million and $5-million payouts, respectively, if their tilt satisfied ticket-purchase conditions.
