Florida State found Willie Taggart's permanent replacement, as Memphis' Mike Norvell has been hired as the program's new head coach.

The news comes just hours after Norvell's Tigers captured the AAC championship with a 29-24 win over Cincinnati to secure a 12-win campaign. The 38-year-old posted a 38-15 mark over four years with Memphis, never finishing with less than eight wins in a season.

"I'm humbled and honored for the opportunity to be the head coach at Florida State University, one of the iconic brands in college football," Norvell said in a release.

Norvell is known for his explosive offensive units, a trait the Seminoles lack after ranking 66th in the country in scoring this season. According to ESPN Stats and Info, only Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ohio State averaged more points per game than Memphis during his tenure with the team.

The Florida State opening became available when the school opted to fire Taggart just nine games into his second season with the program. He finished with a 9-12 record in the ACC.
