Louisville landed its top 2020 recruit to date Friday, as four-star quarterback Chubba Purdy announced his commitment to the Cardinals.

Purdy is the fifth-ranked pocket passer on the ESPN 300 and the No. 115 overall prospect. He's also the first top-300 recruit of his class to commit to Louisville.

The Queen Creek, Ariz., native held offers from a number of big-time schools and was also considering Michigan State and Kansas State.

During a tumultuous 2018 season that culminated in a 2-10 record, head coach Bobby Petrino failed to land high-profile recruits in the 2019 cycle. Louisville fired Petrino in November.

After whiffing on Purdue's Jeff Brohm to replace the longtime coach, the Cardinals hired Scott Satterfield from Appalachian State in December. With Purdy in tow, Satterfield and his staff finally appear to be turning the page on a difficult recruitment period.
