Ohio State announced Monday that Greg Mattison and Jeff Hafley are the team's new co-defensive coordinators.

Incumbent defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is leaving the Buckeyes to pursue opportunities in the NFL.

"I love the idea of having two coordinators on defense," new head coach Ryan Day said in a statement. "I like having a diversity of opinion, but even more I like the expertise and experience that Jeff has in the secondary coupled with the expertise that Greg brings to the front seven."

Mattison joins Ohio State after eight years working for archrival Michigan. He was the Wolverines' defensive line coach for the past four campaigns.

Hafley comes to Columbus after spending the last three seasons as defensive backs coach for the San Francisco 49ers. He last coached in the college ranks at Rutgers in 2011.
