Ex-East Carolina quarterback Gardner Minshew will transfer to Washington State instead of Alabama, his initially stated destination.

The move gives the Cougars a possible starting quarterback for the upcoming season and leaves the Crimson Tide with three scholarship pivots including true freshman and redshirt candidate Mac Jones.

Minshew, a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility left, threw for 2,140 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season.

The former Pirate previously said he would transfer to Alabama, citing the program's ability to kick-start his coaching career while finishing his days as a player.
