Former New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was arrested on traffic warrants Tuesday, records obtained by Katie Hall of the Austin American-Statesman revealed.

Williams was subsequently released from Travis County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

The former Heisman Trophy winner was pulled over during a traffic stop Tuesday evening for missing a rear license plate, according to KXAN. When officers learned Williams had two outstanding traffic warrants, he was arrested and placed in jail.

Williams starred at Texas and was selected fifth overall in the 1999 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, spending the first three years of his career with the club. The running back was traded to the Miami Dolphins in March 2002, spending two stints with the organization.
