Top-10 recruit McNeeley commits to UConn

UConn's bid for a third consecutive national championship got a significant boost Friday as top-10 recruit Liam McNeeley committed to the Huskies on social media.

The five-star prospect originally committed to Indiana last October but reopened his recruitment last month.

Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, and Michigan were among the schools that pursued McNeeley.

The McDonald's All-American visited UConn earlier in the week before pledging his commitment to the program.

"It felt like a perfect fit," McNeeley told ESPN's Jonathan Givony. "(Head) coach (Dan) Hurley is a hard-nosed coach. That's the kind of coach I thrive under.

"The offensive system they run is perfect for my game. The culture of the team. The sets they run. They are going to help me get better on both sides of the ball. The whole coaching staff are good people."

McNeeley starred for Montverde Academy alongside No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 12.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in his senior year.

McNeeley is regarded as one of the top shooters in the 2024 class, making 45% of his threes on more than five attempts per contest.

The Huskies are losing key starters Donovan Clingan, Stephon Castle, Tristen Newton, and Cam Spencer from last season's squad. Forward Alex Karaban could also leave after testing the NBA draft waters.

However, they picked up big man Tarris Reed Jr. from Michigan and are currently hosting St. Mary's star Aidan Mahaney. Dayton sharpshooter Koby Brea is also visiting Storrs this weekend, he told Adam Zagoria of Zagsblogs.com.

Meanwhile, four-star recruits Ahmad Nowell and Isaiah Abraham join McNeeley in a formidable 2024 class.

"My main goal is to win a national championship," McNeeley said, per Givony. "UConn is on a roll right now. They've gone back-to-back, so there's no reason we can't contend for a three-peat."
