California fired head coach Mark Fox after four seasons at the helm of the program, the school announced Thursday.

"I want to thank Mark for his unwavering commitment to our men's basketball program," said Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton. "He led the team through some challenging times and always did so with the class and professionalism we have come to expect from him."

The Golden Bears went 3-29 this season, including a 2-18 mark in conference play. The team lost 69-52 to Washington State in Wednesday's opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament.

California was the second-last team in D-I men's hoops to pick up a win this season following an 0-12 start, behind only Louisville. Its non-conference losses included defeats against mid-major programs such as UC Davis, Southern, UC San Diego, and Texas State.

Fox's teams failed to finish above ninth in the conference in any of his campaigns. His best season came in his first year in 2019-20 with a 14-18 record.

The Golden Bears have made just one NCAA Tournament since 2013, and the program hasn't recorded a winning season since 2017.
