Kansas lands coveted Arizona State transfer Remy Martin
The Kansas Jayhawks have lured prized Arizona State transfer Remy Martin to Lawrence.
Martin declared his commitment to Kansas on Monday, though the 6-foot guard will continue to explore the NBA draft while maintaining his eligibility.
"I just want to be able to play for a historic program," Martin told CBS' Jon Rothstein. "I'm very excited to play for (Kansas head coach Bill) Self and get my master's degree. I'm hoping to interact with the fans and play in such a historic place like Phog Allen Fieldhouse."
Martin averaged 19.1 points in each of his last two seasons with the Sun Devils, earning first-team All-Pac-12 selections in both years. He holds the No. 1 spot in ESPN's rankings of players remaining in the transfer portal.
Self and the Jayhawks also await draft decisions from key contributors Ochai Agbaji and Jalen Wilson. Christian Braun and David McCormack will be back, and skilled guard Joseph Yesufu made the switch to Kansas from Drake in the offseason.
"I can't (wait) to play with those guys," Martin told Rothstein. "They have a history of playing deep in the (NCAA) Tournament. I'm excited to see what we can do."
The Jayhawks finished second in the Big 12 standings last season, posting a 12-6 record in conference play and a 21-9 record overall. Kansas lost in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, suffering a lopsided 85-51 defeat against USC.
