Syracuse men's head coach Jim Boeheim will be on the bench when the Orange host No. 1 Duke on Saturday, the university announced Friday.

Boeheim was involved in a car accident Wednesday night when his vehicle struck and killed a man on a highway.

Jorge Jimenez, 51, had exited his vehicle after striking the guardrail on Interstate 690 when Boeheim's vehicle hit him.

"The Jimenez family has suffered a tremendous loss," Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack said in a statement. "The Boeheim family is heartbroken over what happened, as we all are ... After thoughtful consideration, I have respectfully decided that Coach Boeheim will resume his coaching duties later today and will coach in tomorrow night's game against Duke."

Field sobriety and alcohol-sensor tests administered to Boeheim at the scene of the accident came back negative for impairment, according to Syracuse police. Boeheim had coached the Orange to a 69-49 win over Louisville hours earlier.

The 74-year-old is in his 43rd season as Syracuse's head coach.
