Pitt's athletic board will convene Friday to reassess the direction of its coaching search, a source told Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports.

The news surfaces after the Panthers reportedly whiffed on attempts to hire Dan Hurley away from Rhode Island and Sean Miller away from Arizona. Hurley was announced Thursday as the new coach at UConn, while Miller has said he's not a candidate to fill the vacancy at his alma mater.

Pitt is looking to rebuild its program after two porous seasons under Kevin Stallings. Nine Panthers have received releases to transfer, leaving the roster almost bare for whoever takes over.
